cocktail essentials: bahamian breeze

I had a bit of trouble coming up with a name for this drink. Do you have any notion how many cocktails have the word “breeze” in their names? Actually, the idea for this came from my cousin, and I. He works part time at a couple of bars around London. He calls it a London Breeze; however, it you look at the ingredients, it says anything but, London. I am not the only one to call a recipe “Bahamian Breeze,” but in a Web search the ingredients for the other recipes are very different. So, you ready… Let’s get into the kitchen.

Ingredients For cocktail essentials: bahamian breeze

  • PLAN/PURCHASE
  • 2 1/2 oz
    pineapple juice, fresh is good, canned is okay
  • 2 oz
    dark rum, i like gosling's black seal rum
  • 1/4 oz
    fresh lime juice
  • 1/4 oz
    simple syrup, more on this later
  • 1
    maraschino cherry, and a few drops of juice
  • PREP/PREPARE
  • ice cubes, as needed

    If you make a lot of cocktails, you are probably familiar with simply syrup, you can buy it or make your own. Just bring 50% water, and 50% granulated sugar to a boil, remove from heat, cool, and there you go… simple syrup.

    You will need a cocktail shaker to make this drink.

    Simple syrup is fine for this recipe; however, I just posted a recipe for “kicked up” simple syrup, and I used it in this recipe… awesome stuff.

    Gather your ingredients (mise en place).

    Add some ice cubes to a cocktail mixer, and then add all the ingredients; except the maraschino cherry.

    Give a few shakes (shaken; not stirred), then pour over some fresh ice in a serving glass.

    Garnish with the cherry and lime wedge, then serve. Enjoy.
