This is popular in the Alps region of Switzerland, Germany and Austria where the chilly mountain climate and long skiing season make hot drinks such a necessity. A few sips of this will keep you warm on those snowy, chilly mornings.

Ingredients For alpine coffee

  • 8 oz
    fresh brewed hot coffee (strong)
  • sugar and cream, to taste
  • 1 1/2 oz
    frangelico or other hazelnut liqueur
  • 1 1/2 oz
    kirsch (cherry brandy)
  • 2 Tbsp
    whippped cream
  • a dusting of fresh grated nutmet, for garnish
  • dark chocolate shavings, for garnish

How To Make alpine coffee

  • 1
    Pour coffee into a large coffee mug.
  • 2
    Add cream and sugar to taste (optional).

    Stir in the Frangelico and kirsch.
  • 4
    Top with whipped cream, and grate nutmeg (about 3 to 4 "scratches") on top of the whipped cream. Garnish with a few chocolate shavings, and serve immediately while coffee is still hot.
