Grandma liked to cook and she used to love looking through cookbooks for different recipes. This is a pie that she said she made a lot when my dad was younger and is a favorite. Like grandma wrote on the bottom of the recipe card for this pie, "Make sure you enjoy."

  • 1 1/2 c
    brown sugar
  • 4 Tbsp
    corn starch
  • 3 Tbsp
    all-purpose flour
  • 1 c
    evaporated milk
  • 1 c
    skim milk
  • 3
    egg yolks, beaten
  • 2 Tbsp
    butter
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla
  • 1
    9-inch pie crust, baked

How to Make Grandma's Butterscotch Pie

Step-by-Step

  1. In a double boiler, whisk together sugar, corn starch, and flour.
  2. Add just enough milk to make a paste.
  3. Stir in beaten egg yolks.
  4. Stir in the remainder of the milk.
  5. Cook slowly; stirring constantly when thick. Remove from heat.
  6. Add butter and vanilla.
  7. Pour the filling into the baked pie shell and refrigerate.
