quick cheese danish, shortcut edition
Just this week, I’ve seen three different cheese danish recipe videos that claim to be copycat versions of the cheese danish you get at the most famous coffee chain. All used puff pastry sheets and a cream cheese mixture. Easy enough. But I had just posted a shortcut recipe for Easy Cheesecake Bites right here on Just A Pinch, and I still had some ingredients from that recipe in my fridge. Voilà! Here’s another Quick Cheese Danish recipe for your consideration! =^..^=

How To Make quick cheese danish, shortcut edition
-
Step 1Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Cover 2 baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone mats. Put one puff pastry sheet on each mat. Allow them to thaw out before trying to unroll them.
-
Step 2Cut each puff pastry sheet into 6 equal pieces. I follow the folds, then 1 cut across the middle using a pizza cutter or sharp knife.
-
Step 3Spoon a heaping tablespoon of cheesecake filling* in the middle of each piece of puff pastry. Even out the filling, leaving a border around the edges. *To make your own cream cheese filling, in a medium bowl, beat softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla with a hand mixer, slowly to start, then until well blended. Divide this filling evenly onto the puff pastry rectangles, or use less.
-
Step 4Crack the egg into a cup, add 1 Tablespoon of water, and beat with a fork until blended to make an egg wash. Using a pastry brush (or a small spoon), “paint” the edges of the puff pastry showing around the filling with the egg wash. Sprinkle the egg wash with turbinado sugar, if desired.
-
Step 5Add any fruit toppings you choose, but not too much, over the cheesecake filling. Cinnamon sugar would be good over the egg wash with apple pie filling, too. Fresh fruit could go on either before or after baking. Chocolate sauce would probably be better added after baking. Maybe???
-
Step 6Bake at 400 degrees F in the center of the oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the edges of the puff pastry are as browned as you like it. Remove the danishes to a cooling rack and allow to cool. Sprinkle with powdered sugar or make a drizzle from powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract.
-
Step 7Enjoy with coffee or your favorite breakfast beverage. No drive-through needed! =^..^=
