I never cared for oats on my Apple Betty or apple crisp. This is delicious! For a variety, I add some chopped walnuts or pecans and substitute the apple juice with orange juice. It's apple picking time!

Blue Ribbon Recipe

This no oats apple crisp tastes of fall. It's filled with apple flavor. Cinnamon is prevalent throughout the soft, warm apple filling. On top is the perfect sweet and buttery crumble. Quick to prepare, this apple crisp is a heavenly fall dessert.

Note: To ensure nothing spilled over (and for a pretty picture), we ended up using an 11 1/2 x 8 1/2 pan. If you use an 8x8 or 9x9 pan, just put a baking dish underneath to catch any overflow. Test Kitchen Avatar The Test Kitchen

How to Make Apple Crisp Best Ever! No Oats

Step-by-Step

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
  2. FILLING: In a small mixing bowl, mix cinnamon and sugar together. In an 8x8 or 9x9 inch baking pan, add a single layer of the sugar and cinnamon mixture, do not grease the pan.
  3. Begin layering sliced apples, sprinkling a cinnamon/sugar layer between each layer of apple slices.
  4. Once apple slices are at the top of the pan, cover with a final layer of cinnamon/sugar mixture.
  5. Mix vanilla extract and apple cider/juice in a measuring cup. Pour over apple slices.
  6. TOPPING: Place flour and sugar into a small mixing bowl, blend well. Grate the cold stick of butter. Start with the wrapper on the bottom portion. Begin grating butter with a flat grater over the bowl. Keep sliding wrapper down to grate the butter into flour/sugar mixture until the grated stick of butter is all in the mixture. Use a pastry cutter and blend ingredients together until crumbly.
  7. Cover the apples with the topping, sprinkling all over. Bake in preheated 400 degree F. oven 25 minutes or until golden brown and bubbly. Check and don't burn.
  8. Cool and serve. Add a scoop of vanilla ice cream if you wish.
