A warm and simply delicious fresh fruit dessert that will make your house smell wonderful! It's similar to my peach crisp recipe, but has a thicker topping and a bit more fruit.

Ingredients For fresh fruit cobbler

  • 5 - 6 c
    fresh sliced peaches or apples, pears etc...(peeled)
  • 1 tsp
    lemon juice (fresh or bottled)
  • 1/2 c
    dark brown sugar, equally divided
  • 1/2 tsp
    ground cinnamon, equally divided
  • 1 c
    all purpose flour
  • 1 c
    granulated white sugar
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1/2 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1 lg
    egg, beaten
  • 6 Tbsp
    butter, melted

How To Make fresh fruit cobbler

    Lightly butter an 8"x8" glass or stoneware casserole; set aside until needed.
  • Brown sugar, cinnamon and lemon juice in mixing bowl.

    In a large bowl, mix together 1/4 cup brown sugar, 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon and one teaspoon lemon juice.

    Wash, peel and pit/core fruit, then slice fruit into the brown sugar mixture; gently toss to combine.

    Place oven rack in middle position and preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Flour and sugar mixture, brown sugar and egg for topping.

    In a medium bowl, combine flour, white sugar, salt and baking powder.
  • Crumbly dough mixture for topping.

    Add beaten egg to flour mixture and combine with a fork or pastry blender until it forms large crumbs and no dry flour remains (this takes some patience.)
  • Sliced peaches in buttered dish.

    Pour fruit into prepared dish.
  • Crumbly dough mixture scattered over fruit in dish.

    Use hands to sprinkle evenly with the crumbly dough mixture.

    In a small bowl, mix together remaining 1/4 cup brown sugar and 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon.
  • Brown sugar sprinkled over dough and fruit.

    Sprinkle evenly over the top of the flour mixture.
  • Melted butter spooned over cobbler ready for oven.

    Drizzle evenly with melted butter.

    Bake at 350 degrees F for 1 hour and 10 minutes.
  • Baked fruit cobbler.

    Remove from oven and cool for 15 minutes before serving.

    Cover (no aluminum foil!) and refrigerate leftovers.
