Love apple pie? This fantastic fall dessert is basically apple pie in bar form. There's a delicious shortbread crust, that's smothered in apple pie filling. Sprinkled on top is a buttery crumble that's filled with brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Yum! Ingredients

  • CRUST

  • 2 1/2 c
    all-purpose flour
  • 1 c
    butter or margarine, softened
  • 3/4 c
    sugar
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • FILLING

  • 3 1/2 c
    apple pie filling (from two 21oz cans)
  • CRUMBLE

  • 1 c
    all-purpose flour
  • 1 c
    quick cooking oats
  • 3/4 c
    brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1 tsp
    ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp
    ground nutmeg
  • 10 Tbsp
    butter, cut into small pieces

How to Make Apple Crumble Bars

Step-by-Step

  1. Heat oven to 375 degrees. Grease a 13x9-inch pan with shortening or cooking spray.
  2. In a large bowl, beat crust ingredients with electric mixer on low speed until the mixture looks like coarse crumbs.
  3. Press into prepared pan.
  4. Bake 15 minutes or until golden brown. Cool about 30 minutes. Reduce oven to 350 degrees.
  5. Spoon pie filling evenly over crust.
  6. In a medium bowl mix dry crumble ingredients. Cut in butter with a fork or fingers until crumbly.
  7. Sprinkle evenly over filling and press lightly.
  8. Bake 40 minutes or until crumble is a light brown.
  9. Cool completely, about two hours, then cut into bars.
