This recipe originally comes from the 1941 edition of the Lily Wallace New American Cookbook, which my Great Grandmother (we called her Granny) made a lot of recipes from. Its an amazing cook book! We have made a few variations to the recipe over the years. The original recipe calls for grated orange rhine, but we didn't have any once so my mom substituted orange juice instead and it gave them a little extra something. We've been making them this way ever since! Also, the original recipe calls for 1 1/4 cups of sugar. I use 1 1/2 cups. Anyways, they are sure tasty either way! Enjoy!
