When I was working at the Child Development Center at Mountain Home AFB, ID, there was a woman who worked there named Gidget. She was an awesome lady and this was her recipe that she would bring at Christmas for cookie swaps. She died a couple of years ago, but I still make these every Christmas. I think of Gidget when I'm making them :-) You can't eat just one.

Ingredients For gidget's cracker candy

  • 40
    saltine crackers
  • 1 c
    butter
  • 1 c
    brown sugar
  • 1 pkg
    (12 oz) semi sweet or milk choc chips (i like semi sweet)
  • 1 c
    chopped pecans

How To Make gidget's cracker candy

    Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

    Line cookie sheet with aluminum foil and spray with Pam. Lay out crackers with sides touching.

    Bring butter and sugar to a boil. Boil for 3 min. then pour over crackers. Spread evenly with offset spatula.

    Bake at 350 for 5 minutes.

    Remove from oven and sprinkle with chocolate chips. Let sit 2 min then spread evenly over crackers. Sprinkle with the chopped nuts.

    Separate crackers onto wax paper before cooling. Sweet and Salty, YUMMMMM!
