I got this recipe years ago and have really enjoyed making it over the years. The name on the recipe is Martha Terrell, while I don't recognize the name I am so happy that she shared this recipe. It has brought much joy to our house and to many others. The cookie is yummy too.

How to Make Christmas Mice for Santa

Step-by-Step

  1. preheat to 325'
Take a little time and cut the tails for the mice as you will want to put them on the mice when you take them out of the oven.
  2. Beat sugar and butter until fluffy. Add vanilla and egg and blend well. Lightly sift or spoon measured flour into a bowl and stir in cocoa and baking powder. Mix well. Stir dry ingredients into wet mixing well. Shape dough in to 1" balls. To form the nose pinch one end of the ball. Set the ball on a firm surface and gently pinch both sides of the nose to form ears and eye sockets. Press a mini chip on each side of the nose to create eyes. Set these little guys on an ungreased baking sheet baking sheet about 2" apart.
  3. Bake 8 - 10 minutes or until set. Remove from oven and immediately press the licorice strip into the mouse to create the tail.
Make about 3 dozen and they are so cute. I enjoy making these with the neighborhood kids. We end up making about three batches as they seem to run off almost as soon as they are finished.
