We love sugar cookies. They're fun to cut out and to decorate. This sugar cookie is so buttery. It has just the right amount of flour to make it hold a good shape and still maintain the sweet buttery flavor. A great recipe to have on hand for a holiday. Cut into your favorite shapes and decorate. They're tasty and delicious. This makes a small batch of cookies. If you are making enough for a crowd, double the recipe. The Test Kitchen

How to Make Sugar Cookies


  1. Cream butter and sugar.
  2. Blend in egg.
  3. Add flour, baking powder and vanilla.
  4. Mix until all flour combined.
  5. Wrap in plastic wrap. Chill 2 hours or more.
  6. Slice dough in half. Keep the rest chilled until ready to roll.
  7. Roll dough one part at a time to a 1/4" thickness.
  8. Cut with cookie cutters. Save the scraps. Form a ball and put it back in the fridge. While the cookies are baking, roll out the scraps and cut additional cookies.
  9. Place cookies on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 12 minutes.
  10. Leave cookies on the baking sheet for 10 minutes. Move to a cooling rack to completely cool.
  11. Decorate with icing and decors.
