Ingredients For maple pecan bars

  • 2-1/4 c
    flour
  • 6 Tbsp
    light brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla
  • 8 oz
    (16 tablespoons) unsalted butter, melted
  • FILLING
  • 4 oz
    (8 tablespoons) unsalted butter
  • 1/2 c
    light brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 c
    pure maple syrup
  • 2 Tbsp
    heavy cream
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla
  • pinch salt
  • 3 c
    chopped pecans

How To Make maple pecan bars

    Arrange a rack in the middle of the oven and heat to 350 degrees. Line a 9 X 13 inch baking dish with foil or parchment paper. A Pyrex dish is recomended.

    Place the flour, brown sugar and salt in a medium bowl and whisk. Add the melted butter and vanilla and using a fork, stir until it forms a thick dough. Transfer th,e mixture to the prepared baking dish and press evenly into the bottom.

    Transfer the dish to the freezer for 10 minutes (or the refrigerator for 30 minutes) to allow the dough to firm up. Bake 18 to 20 minutes. Let the crust cool for 20 to 30 minutes befkre adding the filling.

    FILLING: Place the butter, brown sugar and maple syrup in a medium saucepan over medium heat until the butter is melted and the sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat and whisk in heavy cream, vanilla and salt. Fold in pecans.

    Pour the mixture over the crust and spread the pecans evenly. Bake until the mixture is hot and bubbly around the edges, 18 to 20 minutes.

    Remove from oven and allow to cool and set overnight. Cut into squares. Store the bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
