This is a family recipe that's been passed down. My mom always used to make a batch of these whenever we would go camping and my family and all the other campers would devour them within the first or second day. They're definitely my all-time favorite cookie. I try to use really ripe bananas, so usually, I freeze them until they're black. Easy to mash with some added sweetness!

Ingredients

  • 1 c
    shortening
  • 1/2 c
    white sugar
  • 3/4 c
    brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 2
    eggs
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla
  • 3/4 c
    mashed banana (about two medium)
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 1 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1 1/2 tsp
    cinnamon
  • 2 c
    all-purpose flour
  • 2 c
    oatmeal (I use quick oatmeal)
  • 6 oz
    or 1/2 bag of semi-sweet chocolate chips

How to Make Irresistible Banana Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies

Step-by-Step

  1. Preheat oven to 350. Cream shortening, sugars, eggs, vanilla, and banana.
  2. Add dry ingredients.
  3. Stir in chocolate chips.
  4. Drop by heaping spoonfuls onto greased cookie sheets.
  5. Bake 10-14 minutes.
  6. Makes 3-4 dozen, depending on size of spoonfuls.
