This is one of my Grandma's recipes I remember her making these for party's and Christmas. Grandma called these cherry wink's I call them cherry whispers that reminded me of Grandma when she talked she never had a bad day or a cross word.

Ingredients

  • 1/3 c
    shortning
  • 1/2 c
    sugar
  • 1 tsp
    greated lemon peel
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla
  • 1
    egg
  • 2 Tbsp
    milk
  • 1 c
    all purpose flour
  • ·
    candied cherries
  • 1/2 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1/2 c
    raisins
  • 1/2 c
    walnuts or pecans
  • 1 1/2 c
    wheat flakes, crushed

How to Make CHERRY WHISPER'S

Step-by-Step

  1. Cream together first 4 ingredients. Add milk and egg; beat thoroughly.
  2. Sift dry ingredients together add to creamed mixture mixing well
  3. Stir in raisins and nuts..Drop by teaspoons onto crushed bran flakes toss lightly to coat.
  4. Place on a greased cookie sheet about 2 inches apart. Top with a candied cherry half.
  5. Bake at400 degrees about 12 minutes. Cool slightly, remove from pan. Makes 3 dozen
