Ingredients For texas mud

  • 1 c
    shortening
  • 2 c
    sugar
  • 4 lg
    eggs
  • 1 1/4 c
    all-purpose flour
  • 2/3 c
    cocoa powder, divided
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 4 tsp
    vanilla extract, divided
  • 2 c
    pecans, chopped, divided
  • 12 oz
    marshmallow creme
  • 2 stick
    butter, room temperature
  • 1 lb
    powdered sugar

How To Make texas mud

  • 1
    Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Cream shortening and sugar.

    Add eggs.
  • 3
    Add flour, cocoa, salt, 3 tsp vanilla extract, and 1 c chopped pecans.

    Gently beat until well blended.

    Pour into an ungreased 13 X 9 pan.

    Bake for 40 to 50 minutes. DO NOT COOL YET.

    While warm, spread the jar of marshmallow creme.

    For the icing, melt 2 sticks of butter.

    Add 1/3 c cocoa, 1 tsp vanilla, 1 lb powdered sugar, and 1 c chopped pecans. Blend well.

    Spread over mostly cooled cake.

    Let the entire cake completely cool and cut into squares.
