Hot homemade doughnuts are yummy sometimes I do powder sugar and sometimes plain...The kids always liked them iced....I used to make a couple different icings that way they could pick what they wanted....The kids used to get in the kitchen and help me cut them because I would cook the holes too...

Ingredients For jodie's doughnuts

  • 2 Tbsp
    butter, melted
  • 2 lg
    eggs slightly
  • 1/2 tsp
    nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1 tsp
    baking soda
  • 3 1/4 c
    all purpose flour
  • 1/8 tsp
    sea salt
  • 1/2 c
    sugar
  • 1 c
    buttermilk or sour milk
  • cooking oil

    Preheat cooking oil in a Dutch Oven

    1. In a large bowl combine the flour, baking powder, salt, soda, and nutmeg. Set aside.

    2. In a separate bowl beat the eggs and sugar with a mixer.

    3. Stir in melted butter, add flour mixture and milk mixture until well-mixed cover, chill about 2 hours. Turn onto lightly floured surface board, roll out to 1/2 inch; cut with doughnut or biscuit cuttet and cut your holes. Fry in deep, hot grease (375*) 1 min per side or till golden on each side, turning once. Drain on paper towel. Shake in powder sugar or sugar cinnamon or how ever you like....
