Who doesn't love a little german chocolate cake? My Great Grandmother used to make her famous (well, famous to us) german chocolate cake for special occasions only. After years of tweaking her basic chocolate cookie recipe to taste like a piece of german chocolate cake....the cake flavored recipe was invented. It is soft like a cake but you will not feel the same amount of guilt as you would if you ate an entire cake. :) Hope you enjoy!

How to Make Cookie Granny's German Chocolate Cake Cookies

Step-by-Step

  1. Preheat your oven to 325 degrees. Place chopped pecans on cookie sheet and toast 8 minutes until it turns a golden brown in color, turning once after five minutes. After toasted, set the pecans aside and let them cool.
  2. Mix brown and white sugars together in bowl, add butter & mix until smooth. Slowly add honey, eggs, and vanilla until all ingredients are combined.
  3. In separate bowl sift together AP Flour, cocoa, salt, and baking soda. Add your chocolate chips, 1/2 cup toasted pecans and coconut to the dry mix . Add to the wet and mix until combined.
  4. Scoop out cookies of desired size onto parchment lined cookie sheet. (I normally use a 1 1/2" scoop). Top each cookie with a few chopped pecans. Bake 10-12 minutes, rotating pan after 6 minutes.
