Growing up we had a fantastic German bakery in town. I loved his black forest cakes! No other like it. He passed away and they sold. They did not sell their fathers recipes ..boo! So the Hoffers black forest cake was no more and I had to try and fake it! I mean seriously these were my favorite! THe whipped cream icing mmmm and the French chocolate butter cream is almost moose like! So good and will impress

Ingredients

  • 1
    recipe grandmas best chocolate cake
  • 1
    recipe buttermilk white velvet cake
  • 1
    recipe whipped cream frosting
  • 1
    recipe chocolate french butter cream
  • 1 can(s)
    dark sour cherry filling ( sub any cherry filling)
  • 1
    bar of chocolate shaved
  • ·
    maraschino cherries for garnish

How to Make Black forest cake

Step-by-Step

  1. Bake cakes as directed .. You will need 3 layers of white ( I half 2 cakes. There will be an extra half slicing)
    2 layers of chocolate cake
  2. build the cake.
    Bottom up
    White cake cover in whipped cream icing
    Chocolate cake . pipe a ring of the chocolate French butter cream around the edge of the cake ..making a well for the cherries. This just keeps them from squishing out the side.
    Once ring is piped spoon cherry filling in and spread around not to thick
    Spread chocolate French butter cream on top of cherries
    White cake whipped cream
    Chocolate cake .. Pipe rind fill with cherries spread chocolate French cream on top
    White cake whipped cream all the way around
    Hint. You want a good layer of the chocolate butter cream! Its only in the center so use it up on those two layers!
    Ice entire cake with whipped cream
    Sprinkle chocolate shavings on and place cherries on top ..
  3. Refrigerator
    Make sure cake stand is tall enough to house cake lol I learned the hard way mine wasn't tall enough
