Prune Danish, Mark's family recipe...could I possibly use other fillings? Hummm, bakery brain!

  • DOUGH
  • 3 c
    flour
  • 1 pkg
    yeast
  • 1 c
    milk
  • 2 Tbsp
    shortening
  • 2
    eggs
  • 4 Tbsp
    sugar
  • salt
  • FILLING
  • 1 lb
    prunes, dried
  • 1/2 c
    sugar
  • 1 tsp
    cinnamon
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla

    Dough: Heat milk with Crisco, dissolve yeast in water. If milk is too hot add a little more milk to cool it. Add eggs, sugar, salt and then flour. Mix and knead like bread. Let rise until doubles in bulk. Punch down, roll out, cut in squares, fill with lekvar. Pinch together. Let rise again. Fry in hot oil 375-400oF. Drain on paper towel. Sprinkle with powdered sugar. Filling: Boil prunes until tender. Drain and cool. Chop into small pieces, add vanilla, cinnamon and sugar.
