The health benefits of chia seeds are really quite remarkable, and I love doing Nouveau Applichian food, taking old time mountain staples and changing them to a more modern, healthier palate but keeping the spirit of living in the hills in mind.

Ingredients For applichian grits nouveau

  • 1/2 c
    instant grits, (i like jim dandy from piggly wiggly)
  • 1 tsp
    chicken base
  • 1/4 c
    powdered coffee creamer
  • Two tsp
    chia seeds
  • 2 1/4 c
    water
  • salt and pepper to taste (i like hickory smoke salt and tellacherry black pepper)
  • butter substitute spray (i can't believe it's not butter spray)

How To Make applichian grits nouveau

  • 1
    Add all together except pepper, salt and butter spray in a larger bowl or glass Pyrex measuring cup
  • 2
    Microwave on high for 5 min total, stirring every min and a half
  • 3
    Remove from microwave, add salt and pepper to taste and serve with a spray of imitation butter spray and a little mild shredded jack cheese. Enjoy!!!
