This is our favorite deviled egg recipe. Don't leave out the sweet pickle juice because it really makes a big difference in the flavor and don't be surprised when they disappear almost immediately!

Ingredients For basic deviled eggs

  • 10 lg
    hard-boiled eggs, peeled
  • 1 pinch
    salt
  • 1/8 tsp
    granulated sugar
  • 1/4 to 1/3 c
    miracle whip salad dressing
  • 1/2 tsp
    prepared yellow mustard
  • 1/2 to 1 tsp
    sweet pickle juice
  • paprika, smoked or sweet for garnish
  • bacon bits, minced fresh chives or sliced olives (optional)
  • cabbage leaves for garnish (optional)
  • carrot "flowers" for garnish (optional)

How To Make basic deviled eggs

  • 1
    Cut each egg in half, lengthwise, removing yolks to a shallow bowl; place whites in egg dish.

    Using a dinner fork, mash yolks thoroughly.

    Add salt and sugar; mix well.
  • 4
    Add salad dressing, mustard and pickle juice; mix very well and mash any remaining lumps.

    Taste for seasoning and adjust as desired. Add a bit more salad dressing or pickle juice if too thick.

    Fill the whites with the mixture by spoon, butter knife or piping from a pastry bag.

    Sprinkle eggs with a bit of paprika. Garnish further, if desired, with bacon bits, chives or sliced olives. Serve on deviled egg plate.

    Store leftovers refrigerated in airtight container.
