These are the most beautiful, and best tasting pears I have ever tasted!...Yes, my pictures. A friend dropped 3 dozen off at my home. I shared them with my friends, and ate quite a few myself. They are an eating pear. OH! sooo delicious! I have never seen them at the stores.I hope you can find some. I will have to call around.... When they are red, they are at the eating stage,and the skin gets real thin. So with the six left, I decided to make a bread. I added a can of pie apples,and made 2-1/2 loaves! Ingredients For "starkrimson" pears & apple walnut bread

  • 1 c
    butter, softened
  • 1-1/2 c
    sugar ( canned pie apples are sweetened)
  • 4 c
    eggs, beaten
  • 4 c
    flour
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 1 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1/2 c
    buttermilk
  • 1-1/2 c
    chopped walnuts
  • 2 tsp
    vanilla
  • 2 tsp
    cinnamon
  • stark nursery developed these pears

How To Make "starkrimson" pears & apple walnut bread

    Butter 2 loaf pans 9x5x3 inch. Pre-heat oven to 350. Cream butter and sugar. Beat in eggs. Combine all dry ingredients. Add egg mixture to dry mixture,alternately with buttermilk.

    Skin,core and chop pears. Then add 1 can of apple pie filling ,chopped to make 2 cups of fruit. Stir fruit into the batter, and add 2 teaspoons of vanilla. Pour into your buttered pans. This make 2 large loaves of bread. (or 2 plus a smaller one for my grandson!) Bake for 1 hour..... This is my recipe.

    The saucepan in the picture is the cores and skin.. simmering with a wee bit of water... I intend to make jelly with. Remember: WASTE NOT WANT NOT !
