Yeah, I finally came across a bread recipe of my Grammie's and I am sure glad I did. This bread has a wonderful flavor with the addition of dates and nuts too. I just love the smell of cinnamon and cloves when it's baking....makes you want to slice up a piece and add a little butter right when you take it out of the oven. I love the color of this bread too. It sure makes some beautiful loaves that would be great for gift giving during the holidays. Hope you enjoy my Grammie's recipe for Pumpkin Bread.

Ingredients For gram's pumpkin bread

  • 2/3 c
    shortening
  • 4 lg
    eggs
  • 1 1/2 c
    sugar
  • 2 c
    pumpkin
  • 2/3 c
    water
  • 2 tsp
    soda
  • 3 1/2 c
    all purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1 tsp
    cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1/2 tsp
    cloves
  • 2/3 c
    nuts, chopped (walnut or pecan)
  • 2/3 c
    dates, chopped

How To Make gram's pumpkin bread

    Cream together shortening, sugar and eggs. Then add 2 cups pumpkin. Next, you add the 2 tsp of soda with the water and add to mixture. Now, I would sift the remaining dry ingredients and add to the mixture.

    Stir in the nuts and dates at the end.

    Grease and flour your pans. You can use two large loaf pans or 3 smaller loaves. Bake at 350 for 45 minutes to 1 hour.

    Cool on wire rack.

    Slice up and add a little butter .....yumm!

    Sept. 28th, 2014 -- First pumpkin goodies to be made for the season. I always make one loaf with just dates and the other with dates & nuts.
