The classic Southern Cornbread made with buttermilk and no added sugar. Cooked like it should be.....in a cast iron skillet. No cast iron? No problem. This cornbread will cook up just fine in a muffin tin.

  • 1 c
    cornmeal
  • 1/2 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1/4 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1 c
    buttermilk
  • 1
    egg
  • 3 Tbsp
    vegetable oil

How To Make mary jo’s southern cornbread

    Heat oven to 425 degrees. Add oil to cast iron skillet and allow to preheat.

    Combine cornmeal, baking soda, salt, baking powder, buttermilk and egg. Add a small amount of oil to the mixture.

    Pour mixture into preheated skillet.

    Bake at 425 degrees for 25-30 minutes until the top is slightly brown.
