I got this recipe out of an old cook book of my mothers she used this recipe for coffee cakes, orange bow knots, clover leaf roll and several others. There was nothing better than coming home on a real cold day and coming through the door to the smell of fresh baked bread always brings back a happy memory.

Ingredients For plain roll dough

1 pkgactive dry yeast (or cake conpressed yeast)

1/4 cwater

1 cmilk (scalded)

2 1/2 Tbspsugar

2 1/2 Tbspshortening

3 1/2 call purpose flour

1 mdegg

How To Make plain roll dough

1Soften dry yeast in water (110 degrees) in a small bowl

2Add milk, sugar, shortening, and salt. cool to lukewarm. I do this in my stand mixer.

3Add 1 cup of flour; beat well .

4beat in yeast and egg.

5gradually add in the rest of the flour to form a soft dough, beating well.

6cover and let rise in a warm place (82 degrees) till double (1 1/2 to 2 hours)

7Turn out on lightly floured surface and shape as desired.
