Ingredients For cornbread

    buttermilk
  • 1/2 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1 c
    yellow corn meal
  • 2 Tbsp
    butter, melted
  • 1
    egg, well beaten
  • 1 Tbsp
    shortening

How To Make cornbread

    Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
  • 2
    Place shortening in a small cast iron skillet. Place it in the warm oven and heat until shortening is hot.

    While it is heating, put the soda in the milk and stir.
  • 4
    Put corn meal, salt, egg and butter in a bowl. Add the milk mixture. Stir well.

    Remove skillet from oven. Carefully pour batter into the skillet.

    Bake for 15 minutes or until done.
