This is a recipe I've enjoyed since childhood. Having a Cuban grandpa & Puerto Rican grandma, this was a staple in our house. It's a wonderful comfort food.

Ingredients

  • 3 Tbsp
    olive oil, extra virgin
  • 1 small
    onion, diced
  • 1
    green bell pepper, diced
  • 2 clove
    garlic, minced
  • 1 1/2 lb
    ground beef
  • ·
    salt and pepper, to taste
  • 8 oz
    tomato sauce
  • 1 small
    can tomato paste
  • 1/4 c
    white wine, dry
  • 10
    pimiento stuffed spanish olives, diced
  • 1/2 tsp
    cumin

How to Make Picadillo (Cuban)

Step-by-Step

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onion, green pepper and garlic and saute until the onion is transluscent.
  2. Add ground beef, cooking until browned. Season with salt and pepper.
  3. Add remaining ingredients, stirring until well combined. Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat to medium-low. Cover and simmer for 15 minutes.
  4. Serve over white rice.
