Easy to prepare, and oh-so yummy! It looks like a lot of ingredients, but is definitely better than packaged "chili mixes"!

Ingredients For spicy chili

  • 2 lb
    ground round or ground sirloin
  • 1 md
    white onion, chopped
  • 3 can
    dark red kidney beans
  • 1 can
    stewed tomatoes (28 oz or 1 quart jar home-canned stewed tomatoes)
  • 3 can
    tomato sauce (15 oz each)
  • 8 oz
    fresh button mushrooms, sliced
  • 1/4 c
    chopped jalapeno peppers
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp
    cumin
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp
    chipotle chili powder
  • 1 tsp
    garlic powder
  • 1 tsp
    thyme
  • 1 tsp
    paprika
  • 1/2 tsp
    coriander
  • 1 Tbsp
    brown sugar
  • 1 tsp
    celery seed
  • salt and pepper, to taste

How To Make spicy chili

    In dutch oven, brown meat with onions. Drain well and return to pan.

    Add tomato sauce, stewed tomatoes, kidney beans, mushrooms, jalapenos, and brown sugar/spices.

    Bring to full boil, and reduce heat to low. Cover and simmer for 2 hours to allow flavors to meld, stirring occasionally. NOTE- Cumin, chili powder, and jalapeno amounts can be adjusted to suit your personal taste.
