Ingredients

  • 4 medium
    granny smith apples ; peeled and sliced
  • 1 Tbsp
    fresh lemon juice
  • 1 c
    stale pound cake crumbs (can use coarse bread crumbs too)
  • 4 1/2 Tbsp
    butter, room temperature
  • 1/2 c
    sugar
  • pinch
    of salt
  • 1 tsp
    cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp
    ground allspice
  • 1/4 tsp
    ground ginger
  • 1/4 tsp
    apple cider

How to Make Apple Brown Betty

Step-by-Step

  1. Using 1 TBS of the butter , liberally coat a 1-1/2 Qt. baking dish.
  2. In a medium bowl , combine the apples and lemon juice and toss to combine.
  3. In a small bowl mix together the cake crumbs , 3 TBS. of butter , sugar , cinnamon , allspice and salt.
  4. Place 1/2 of the sliced apples in the buttered dish.
  5. Cover with 1/2 the cake crumb mixture.
  6. Add the remaining apples and drizzle with the apple cider.
  7. Top with the remaining cake crumb mixture.
  8. Dot with the remaining butter.
  9. Bake @ 375° for 45 minutes or until the apples are tender and bubbly and crust is golden brown.
  10. Serve warm with ice cream or whipped topping.
