Loved Mom's soup on a cold winter day.... She was a wonderful cook - actually I prefer to think of her as a chef. Miss ya Mom!

Ingredients

  • 1 pkg
    pound dry split peas
  • 1 c
    celery leaves and stalks chopped
  • 1 c
    chopped onion
  • 1 c
    chopped carrots
  • 1 tsp
    dry oregano
  • 1 Tbsp
    parsley leaves
  • 1
    bay leaf
  • ·
    salt to taste
  • ·
    pepper to taste
  • 1
    ham hocks
  • 2 qt
    water
  • ·
    small amount of chopped (seedless) hot peppers to taste
  • ·
    (optional) small amount of chopped ham,

How to Make Mom's Split Pea Soup

Step-by-Step

  1. Combine all ingredients in a large pot
  2. Bring to a boil, reduce to simmer stirring frequently until thick ( a couple of hours) Make sure it does not burn!
  3. I remove the ham bone and add chopped ham as desired
