Ingredients

  • CRUST

  • 1 1/2 c
    flour
  • 2 Tbsp
    sugar
  • 1/2 c
    sweet butter cold sliced
  • 1
    yolk egg, lightly beaten
  • 2 - 3 Tbsp
    ice cold water
  • APPLE AND CUSTARD FILING

  • 5 -6
    apples, golden delicious, peeled, cored and thinly sliced
  • 1-2 tsp
    lemon juice to prevent browning
  • 6 Tbsp
    sugar
  • 3
    eggs
  • 1/2 c
    heavy cream
  • 1/2 tsp
    pure vanilla extract

How to Make Apple Kuchen

Step-by-Step

  1. Heat oven to 350 degrees
  2. Sprinkle apples with lemon juice to prevent browning
  3. Mix together flour and sugar
  4. cut in cold butter
  5. sprinkle with enough water and mix until the dough forms into a ball
  6. refrigerate 1 hour
  7. Roll dough to fit your pan building up the sides
  8. Place in a 10" spring form pan
  9. Layer apple slices in a swirl pattern over dough
  10. Wisk together eggs, cream and vanilla.
  11. Pour over apples and bake 350 for 35 - 45 minutes until custard is set and apples are tender
