Living in GA I can't find dried salted cod fish, but I made this a lot when I lived up north. I'm a die hard and I will not give up trying. This is how the recipe was given to me, but I change it as I go. The cook time seems long, but it's the different steps that take up the time, but worth it.

Ingredients For cod fish cakes

  • 1 lb
    dried salted cod fish
  • 2 lb
    potatoes
  • 1/2
    chopped green pepper
  • 1
    egg
  • 1 md
    onion
  • 1 Tbsp
    prepared mustard
  • 1 Tbsp
    mayo
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • parsley
  • 2 clove
    garlic (chopped or pressed)

How To Make cod fish cakes

    Soak cod fish overnite
  • 2
    Boil fish about 1 hour
  • 3
    Peel potatoes
  • 4
    Drain cod fish and debone
  • 5
    Put cod fish in pan with potatoes. Cover and cook until potatoes are tender

    Check fish again for bones (just in case)

    Add remaining ingredients and mash while hot
  • 8
    Form mixture into patties and fry until golden and crisp
