A man that I used to work with brought this for a potluck...lol...I believe it was his wife that did the cooking...this cake was delicious. It is made in a cookie sheet pan, is simple but packed with flavor. The one we had did not have nuts but the peanut butter instead. Great for a crowd.

Ingredients

  • 2 c
    all purpose flour
  • 2 c
    sugar
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1 stick
    oleo
  • 1 c
    water, cold
  • 1/2 c
    shortening
  • 3 Tbsp
    cocoa powder
  • 2
    eggs, beaten
  • 1 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1/2 c
    buttermilk
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla extract
  • ICING:

  • 1 stick
    oleo
  • 3 Tbsp
    cocoa powder
  • 1 box
    powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla extract
  • 1/2 c
    nuts, optional or
  • 1/3 c
    peanut butter, crunchy
  • 6 Tbsp
    milk
  • pinch
    salt

How to Make Chocolate Cookie Sheet Cake

Step-by-Step

  1. Sift together flour, sugar, salt. In a saucepan put oleo, water, shortening & cocoa. Bring to a boil & pour over flour mixture. Mix well. Add eggs. Add baking soda, buttermilk & vanilla. Stir Well.

    Bake in greased & floured cookie sheet (15 1/2 x 10 1/2 x 1) in 350 degree oven for 20-25 minutes. Start making icing during last 5 minutes.
  2. ICING:

    Using same saucepan melt oleo, cocoa, peanut butter but do NOT boil. Take off heat & add powdered sugar, vanilla, nuts if desired & milk. Ice cake hot. Makes 35 squares.
