Years ago a neighbor asked my mama to recreate a beloved pie from his childhood. This is the one, and boy is it ever good!

Ingredients

  • 1
    9-inch pie shell, baked and cooled
  • FILLING

  • 1 1/2 c
    sugar
  • 2 c
    sour cream
  • 3 Tbsp
    corn starch
  • 3
    egg yolks, reserve whites
  • 1 c
    raisins
  • 1/2 tsp
    cinnamon
  • 2 dash(es)
    ground cloves
  • MERINGUE

  • 3
    egg whites
  • 1/2 tsp
    cream of tartar
  • 3/4 c
    sugar

How to Make Sour Cream Raisin Pie

Step-by-Step

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. In a heavy bottomed saucepan stir together the fillings ingredients. Stirring constantly, cook over medium heat until thickened and bubbly. Keep warm.
  3. For the meringue, beat together egg whites and cream of tartar. Beat on medium speed until soft peaks form. Add sugar 1 tablespoon at a time. Beat on high for 4 minutes, or until stiff, glossy peaks form.
  4. Pour warm filling into baked pie shell. Spread meringue over filling.
  5. Bake for 15 minutes, or until meringue is browned.
  6. Cool 1 hour on a wire rack. Chill 4 to 6 hours before serving.
