This make ahead is a great staple in any pantry. So make a few for yourself as well as others. Great for new time cooks or in a house warming basket. These are great in a basket of treats for someone who is ailing.

Ingredients For country soup in a jar

  • 1/2 c
    barley
  • 1/2 c
    dried split peas
  • 1/2 c
    uncooked rice
  • 1/2 c
    dry lentils
  • 2 Tbsp
    dried minced onion
  • 2 Tbsp
    parsley flakes
  • 2 tsp
    salt
  • 1/2 tsp
    lemon pepper
  • 2 Tbsp
    beef bouillon granules (can use chicken or vegan)
  • 1/2 c
    uncooked alphabet pasta
  • 1 c
    uncooked twist macaroni

How To Make country soup in a jar

  • 1
    In a wide-mouth jar, layer the barley, peas, rice & lentils. Then layer around the edges the onion, parsley, salt, lemon pepper, bouillon, and the alphabet pasta. Fill the rest of the jar with the twist macaroni. Seal the jar.

    Cooking Directions: (To be included with the soup mix)

    Country soup Add contents of the jar to 3 quarts of water. Add 2 stalks of chopped celery, 2 sliced carrots, 1 cup shreeded cabbage (optional), and 2 cups sun dried tomatoes or cut up regular ones. Heat over medium-low heat, cover & simmer for about 1 hour or until vegetables are tender. Note can add leftover Chicken or beef if desired
