Ingredients For big woodie chili

  • 2 1/2 lb
    beef tri-tip roast
  • 14.5 oz can
    chicken broth
  • 14.5 oz can
    beef broth
  • 8 oz can
    tomato sauce
  • 1/4 tsp
    brown sugar
  • 2 Tbsp
    shortening
  • water
  • _______________________________________
  • 1st phase of spices:
  • 1 Tbsp
    paprika
  • 1 1/2 tsp
    onion powder
  • 1 tsp
    garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp
    seasoned salt
  • 1/2 Tbsp
    chili powder
  • 1/2 Tbsp
    ground chili powder
  • 2 tsp
    beef granules
  • 1 tsp
    chicken granules
  • ________________________________________
  • 2nd phase of spices:
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp
    chili powder
  • 3 tsp
    ground cumin
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp
    texas style chili powder
  • 1/2 Tbsp
    hot chili powder
  • 1/2 Tbsp
    light chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp
    seasoned salt
  • 1/2 tsp
    garlic powder

  • 3rd phase of spices
  • 2 tsp
    texas style chili powder
  • 1 tsp
    ground cumin
  • 1/4 tsp
    garlic powder
  • frank's red hot as needed for heat

How To Make big woodie chili

  • 1
    Brown tri-tip in 2 TBSP of shortening. Drain fat, rinse and return to pot.
  • 2
    Add chicken and beef broth, tomato sauce, brown sugar and first phase of spices. Cook about 2 hours, add water if needed. (cook longer if meat is not tender)
  • 3
    Add 2nd phase of spices and simmer for 15 minutes. Add 3rd phase of spices and simmer for 15 more minutes. Add Seasoned Salt and Frank’s Red Hot Sauce to taste and serve!
