cinnamon sugared walnuts

Recipe by

In the early 1980's, I received a small tin of these delicious nuts and my holiday gifting changed forever. After begging the recipe from the mother of the student who gave them to me, I have proceeded to make & share these every Christmas since, and a few other holidays, too. It's easy to make a double batch and your family & friends will be glad you did. I'm told cinnamon sugared pecans are good, as well, if you have access to a pecan tree or can afford 4 cups of them. =^..^=

Ingredients For cinnamon sugared walnuts

  • 1/2 c
    white sugar
  • 2 Tbsp
    ground cinnamon
  • 4 c
    walnut halves (or pecans)
  • 1
    egg white

How To Make cinnamon sugared walnuts

  • 1
Preheat oven to 300 degrees F. (Yes, 300, NOT 350!) Get out a rimmed cookie sheet, if you have one. If not, just be careful not to dump the nuts in the oven. Don't ask me how I know this...
  • 2
In a small bowl, mix the sugar and cinnamon together. Set aside.
  • 3
In a medium bowl, add the walnuts, then the egg white. Stir together until all the nuts are coated. (Yes, it's easier to just wash your hands well and smoosh the egg white around until the nuts are covered.)
  • 4
Then pour the sugar & cinnamon mixture over the nuts and stir together well. (Since your hands are already messy...)
  • 5
Spread the walnuts onto the cookie sheet in a single layer.
  • 6
Bake at 300 (!) degrees F. for 25-30 minutes, or until the walnuts are toasted and dry. Check early the first time you make them, in case your oven is running a little hot. You don't want to overbake them!

Serve warm or cool completely. Store in an airtight container. Put out some to share while you stash the ones that are intended as gifts. Save some back just for you. =^..^=
