sweet & spicy nuts

I've made these for a variety of parties and they always go over well. Warning ... there is a slight delay in the heat, so it surprises people. Switch the nuts to your favorite kind. Sometimes nuts stay sticky, but they are always delicious ... Enjoy!

Ingredients For sweet & spicy nuts

  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1/4 tsp
    ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp
    ground cumin
  • 1/4 tsp
    cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 tsp
    chili powder
  • 1/4 tsp
    chipotle chili powder
  • 1/8 tsp
    ground nutmeg
  • 3 Tbsp
    unsalted butter
  • 1 c
    whole almonds
  • 1 c
    pecan halves
  • 1/4 c
    packed brown sugar
  • 1 Tbsp
    water
  • 1 1/2 tsp
    worcestershire sauce
  • dash
    louisiana-style hot sauce (if desired)

How To Make sweet & spicy nuts

    In a small bowl, combine salt and spices, then set aside.

    In a large frying pan, melt butter. Add nuts; cook over medium heat until nuts are toasted (about 4-5 minutes)

    Sprinkle nuts with spice mixture. Add brown sugar, water and worcestershire sauce and hot sauce (if desired).

    Stir over heat for 1-2 minutes or until sugar is completely melted. Spread nuts on foil to cool. Store in an airtight container.
