This recipe is a nice change from the usual baked beans that show up at BBQs or pot luck dinners! Has a sweet & sour taste thanks to a sugar and vinegar sauce.

Ingredients For hot 5-bean salad

  • 1 can
    kidney beans (16 oz. can), drained
  • 1 can
    green beans (16 oz. can), drained
  • 1 can
    lima beans (16 oz. can), drained
  • 1 can
    wax beans (16 oz. can), drained
  • 1 can
    garbanzo beans (16 oz. can), drained
  • 4 slice
    bacon, crumbled
  • 2/3 c
    sugar
  • 3/4 c
    vinegar
  • 1/2 c
    water
  • 2 Tbsp
    corn starch
  • 1 1/2 tsp
    salt (or to taste)
  • 1 tsp
    black pepper (or to taste)

How To Make hot 5-bean salad

    In a large skillet, cook 4-8 slices of bacon until crisp. Crumble bacon for later. Pour off all but 1/4 cup drippings.

    Combine in skillet sugar, cornstarch, salt and pepper. Stir in vinegar and water. Heat to boiling, stirring constantly.

    Add all the beans to the skillet, stirring to mix.

    Reduce heat and cover. Simmer 20 minutes.

    Turn into a serving dish and top with bacon crumbles. Enjoy!
