This is a old family recipe from South Dakota. Butter and brown sugar makes this a Holiday only dish. I double this recipe for Christmas dinner.

Ingredients For holiday basted yams

  • 1/2 c
    white sugar
  • 1/2 c
    brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1/4 c
    water
  • 1/4 c
    butter
  • 1 can
    pineapple juice, unsweetened
  • 1 can
    yams, drained

How To Make holiday basted yams

  • 1
    Melt butter and add both sugars and water(I drain the canned pineapple and use it for part of the water measurement). Boil. While waiting for first 4 ingedients to boil, arrange drained pineapple and drained canned yams into casserole pan. Pour boiled mix over pineapple and yams. Bake uncovered for 45 mins. Baste 2-3 times.
