This super simple salad turned me into a pea lover forever. The tart apples, crunchy celery, and tiny sweet peas in that peppery dressing is all it took! This dish is a regular favorite, but is also featured on the table at every family holiday.

Ingredients For grandma's peppery pea salad

  • 2 can
15oz petite or early peas, drained
  • 2 stalk
    celery, finely diced
  • 3/4 - 1
tart apple, peeled, cored, and diced
  • ~1/2 c
    mayonnaise (see note in directions)
  • pepper
  • 1/3 c
    pecans, finely chopped (optional)

How To Make grandma's peppery pea salad

  • 1
Add the peas, celery, apple, and pecans (if using) to a bowl. Mix.
  • 2
Add the mayo and stir to combine. The mayo really is an visual measurement', but you want to put enough in that the mixture really does look 'wet' because the salad with dry a bit overnight. I usually end up with about 1/2 cup, but add slightly less than that and see how it looks.

Add your pepper to taste and stir one more time to combine. But, you really want to see the pepper in there. The kick from the pepper really brings this dish together. Let chill for a few hours or overnight and serve cold. Enjoy!
