I love fresh vegetables in the summer time. You just can't beat picking them fresh from the garden or purchasing them at a vegetable/fruit stand. I love okra cooked on top of peas, butterbeans, in gumbo, soup, but fried is one of my favorite ways to fix okra. As you know most of us southerners have been raised on fried food (not the best for you) but oh so good. This is one of those veggies that I have to splurge on by frying it.

    fresh cut okra
  • 1 c

  • 1/2-1 c

  • 1 1/2 Tbsp
    flour

How To Make fresh fried okra

  • 1
Wash, cut the tops off of the okra. Cut the okra in desired pieces. Let them soak in the cup of milk. Get your oil hot in your skillet. In another bowl mix the corn meal and flour together. You should have more meal than flour. Take your okra from the milk and dip it in the flour/cornmeal mixture. Fry on medium heat until you get them golden brown or as brown as your family likes them. Sprinkle salt and pepper on them and serve.
