I used pre-salted potato pearls when making this recipe. If you can't find those you could use potato flakes but the texture won't be as good.

instant potato pearls

water
-
canned milk

butter

How To Make semi-homeade mashed potatoes

1Measure potato pearls and water according to package directions, replacing HALF the water with the canned milk.

2Bring water/milk to a boil.(do not scald)

3Remove from heat and add potato pearls, whisking constantly with a large whisk to remove all lumps.

4Stir in butter and sour cream to taste. (I use about 1/2 cup of each for a medium sized pot)

5Allow potatoes to sit until thickened.(about 15 minutes)
