Ingredients For jen's drunken cherry bbq sauce

  • 1/4 c
    whiskey (to your taste)
  • 1 md
    onion, chopped
  • 1 Tbsp
    olive oil
  • 1-2 clove
    garlic, minced
  • 2 c
    fresh or frozen dark sweet cherries, pitted and coarsely chopped
  • 1/2 -3/4 c
    ketchup (to your taste)
  • 1/2 * 2/3 c
    packed brown sugar (to your taste)
  • 1/4 c
    cider vinegar
  • 1 Tbsp
    worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp
    crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1/8 tsp
    liquid smoke (optional)

How To Make jen's drunken cherry bbq sauce

  • 1
    In a large saucepan, saute onion in olive oil until tender. Add garlic and red pepper flakes; cook 1 minute longer. Stir in the remaining ingredients. Cook, uncovered, over medium-low heat for 30 - 60 minutes or until cherries are tender and sauce is thickened, stirring occasionally.
