This recipe has been in old family cookbooks for generations. I'm not surprised at its popularity, because it can be used in a variety of ways. We especially like it served over pound cake and gingerbread or simply topped with fresh strawberries.

Ingredients For custard sauce

4beaten egg yolks

1 dashsalt

1/4 csugar

2 cmilk, scalded, and slightly cooled

1 tspvanilla
How To Make custard sauce

1In a heavy saucepan, mix egg yolks, salt, and sugar. Gradually stir in scalded milk. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, till mixture coats a metal spoon.

2Remove from heat; cool in pan at once in cold water; stir a minute or two. Add vanilla. Stir Chill
