hot pepper jelly (shirley's)

A few weeks ago, my husband came home from our friends' place with an emerald green jar of homemade pepper jelly. It was delicious! He also brought the recipe. I haven't made a batch yet, but this is the recipe Shirley used, so I KNOW it's great! I'm posting it "as written." Thanks, Shirley!

Ingredients For hot pepper jelly (shirley's)

  • 2 c
    ground bell pepper
  • 1/2 c
    ground hot peppers
  • 7 1/2 c
    sugar
  • 1 1/2 c
    white vinegar
  • 1 bottle
    liquid pectin
  • green food coloring, optional

How To Make hot pepper jelly (shirley's)

  • 1
    Bring the peppers, vinegar and sugar to a boil.

    Cook for 6 minutes at a rolling boil, then remove from heat and add the pectin.

    Return to high heat and boil for 4 more minutes.

    Add the food coloring as desired.
  • 5
    Pour into sterilized jars and seal.
