The prep time looks long but it’s really just the time to get the baking pan nice and hot. The active cooking time is really only about 5 minutes! I love it for that reason! By preheating the baking pan and spraying with cooking oil you get the crispiness of fried fish without all those calories and headache. When you fry you have to stand right over the stove the entire time but when you bake you can walk away and come back when the timer goes off. These sandwiches were a big hit and I’m sure they’ll be popping up in my menu again soon.

Ingredients For fish fillet sandwich with homemade tartar sauce

  • FISH FILLET SANDWICH
  • 2
    tilapia fillets, cut in half to become bun sized
  • 2
    eggs, beaten
  • 1/2 c
    all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 c
    bread crumbs
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 1/2 tsp
    pepper
  • 1 tsp
    garlic powder
  • cooking spray
  • 4
    hamburger buns
  • 4 slice
    american cheese (or your favorite)
  • shredded lettuce
  • HOMEMADE TARTAR SAUCE
  • 1/2 c
    mayonnaise
  • 1/2 c
    greek yogurt, nonfat
  • 1 Tbsp
    white vinegar
  • 1/2 c
    bread and butter relish
  • 2 Tbsp
    bread and butter relish liquid
  • salt and pepper to taste

How To Make fish fillet sandwich with homemade tartar sauce

    Homemade Tartar Sauce; Mix all ingredients in a bowl and set aside in the fridge

    Fish Fillet Sandwich: Line a baking sheet with foil and place in the oven preheat oven and baking sheet to 350 degrees for 30 minutes

    Mix the flour, bread crumbs, salt, pepper, and garlic powder in a shallow dish, like a pie plate, Beat eggs in a bowl dip the tilapia in the egg and allow extra to drip off

    Place in the flour mixture and coat completely, shaking of the extra Place on a plate Repeat with the remaining fish

    Spray the tops of the fish with the cooking spray Place on the baking sheet cooking spray side down Spray the other side of the fish with the cooking spray as well

    Cook for 15 minutes and then flip and cook an additional 15 min or until fish is completely cooked and golden brown Toast the buns and melt a slice of cheese on each bottom bun to melt Place a piece of tilapia on top of the cheese and then top with a spoonful of the tartar sauce Top with lettuce and the bun Enjoy!!!
