Begin by making a traditional mix for french toast. Mix eggs and milk together until combined. Heat skillet or fry pan on med. dredge slices on bread in egg mixture and transfer to pan. Fry one side well done, fry the other side slightly lighter. This is the side you will use to refry when the sandwich is constructed. Cook 4 of the slices WELL on BOTH sides. These will be the inside slices. Once slices are cooked, begin assembly by placing the slightly cooked side of one slice down on a plate or cutting board, more cooked side UP...spread with mayo, add one slice of cheddar, 3 slices of ham and then 1 slice of cheddar. Take one of the 4 fully done pieces of Fr. tst and spread mayo on one side, place it on top of the cheddar. spread the top side of the "done" bread with more mayo, add a slice of swiss, 3 slices of turkey and another slice of swiss. Take another one of the "slightly" done pieces of fr tst, spread mayo on the DONE side, place on top of the swiss. Now return the "built" sandwich back on the fry pan...re-fry both "slightly done" sides of the sandwich until cheese is melted and both sides are toasted. while sandwich is re-frying, prepare plates by dusting with pwdr sugar. Place cooked sandwich on the plate, dust the top of the sandwich again with pwdr sugar; cut diagonally into 4 small triangles; serve with a dollop of strawberry jam and a slice of fresh fruit.......I prefer Cantaloupe!!!!! repeat process for the other three sandwiches. If you use an electric skillet or a stovetop skillet, this process will go quicker and 2 sandwiches can be prepared at the same time. enjoy....

This recipe seems to be difficult but once you have done it a couple of times and get the swing of it its basically a french toast toasted sandwich and is really a much healthier way to have a Monte Cristo. No FRYING or deep fat frying!
