Ingredients For hot & sweet country ham & bean sammie

  • 1 slice
    country ham,
  • 1/2
  • 1/4 c
    chunk pineapple,drain & reserve juice
  • 6
    fresh green beans, cleaned &
  • cut in 1
  • 1/2 stick
    margarine
  • 1/4 c
    light brown sugar
  • reserved pineapple juice
  • 1 Tbsp
    cornstarch
  • sweet hot mustard
  • 2 slice
    swiss cheese

How To Make hot & sweet country ham & bean sammie

  • 1
Using a sharp knife, cut the rind/skin off the ham slice. Cut across slice to make 4 strips, two of the strips will be rounded on one side. Cut strips into pieces, about 1-1/2" square.
  • 2
In large skillet, melt butter and stir in brown sugar. Add ham, let it cook until it starts to get a little brown. Add green beans cut in pieces, then add pineapple chunks. Let it cook until beans are crisp-tender and ham & pineapple are both warmed. Take all from skillet, keeping each ingredient separate.
  • 3
To skillet, add reserved pineapple juice & bring to simmer. Whisk in cornstarch until mixture thickens a bit. Add ham and pineapple back into skillet and let cook until they are both glazed with the mixture.
  • 4
On a soft hoagie-style bun, spread sweet hot mustard on inside of both top and bottom. Put slice of cheese on bottom, layer ham pieces, then beans, with pineapple on the top. Watch because ingredients have a tendency to slide off the bun!
  • Ready to go!
    5
Place top on bun; it's going to be juicy and you have to have a good grip to keep it from sliding apart...use napkin to catch the drips! Enjoy!
