I love chinese food...but hate to go to the local restaurants sometimes. Now I stay in and enjoy this simple dish. I found this recipe on another food site. When purchasing the pork, I have bought boneless pork chops and cut into small pieces. You can also add other vegetables to this...very versatile.

Ingredients For chop suey

  • 1/4 c
    shortening
  • 1 1/2 c
    pork loin, diced
  • 1 c
    onion, diced
  • 1 c
    celery, diced
  • 1 c
    hot water
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 1/8 tsp
    pepper
  • 1 can
    ( 14.5 oz.) bean sprouts, drained and rinsed
  • 1/3 c
    cold water
  • 2 Tbsp
    cornstarch
  • 2 tsp
    soy sauce, low sodium
  • 1 tsp
    white sugar

How To Make chop suey

  • 1
    Heat shortening in a large, deep skillet. Sear pork until it turns white, then add onion and saute for 5 minutes. Add celery, hot water, salt and pepper. Cover skillet and simmer for 5 minutes. Add sprouts and heat to boiling.

    In a small bowl, combine the cold water, cornstarch, soy sauce and sugar. Mix together and add to skillet mixture. Cook for 5 minutes, or until thickened to taste.
